The attorneys of Schell Bray Aycock Abel & Livingston
are dedicated to excellence in the practice of law and to maintaining
the highest ethical standards. We seek to attract and retain attorneys
whom we believe are particularly well qualified to provide both
practical and innovative advice to our clients.
We
are pleased that a number of our attorneys have received special
recognition for their accomplishments. Based upon peer group voting,
nine attorneys in our firm have been listed in "The
Best Lawyers in America" in their respective fields,
and eleven of our members have been recognized by Business North Carolina
as members of North Carolina's "Legal Elite" in
their chosen areas of practice. Six of our members have been certified
by the North Carolina State Bar's Board of Legal Specialization as
specialists in their areas of practice.
As a part of our ongoing professional development, members of our
firm are regularly involved in the development and interpretation
of North Carolina's business, corporate, and trust and estate laws.
Attorneys in our firm served on the drafting committees for the current
version of the North Carolina Business Corporation Act and the North
Carolina Nonprofit Corporation Act, the North Carolina Limited Liability
Company Act, and the North Carolina Uniform Trust Code.
Two of our members have been regularly involved with the North Carolina
General Statutes Commission, which develops new legislation to be
submitted for adoption by the North Carolina General Assembly. Doris
Bray served on the General Statutes Commission for more than twenty
years, including four years as chair, and, for such service, was
designated by the Governor of North Carolina as a member of the Order
of the Long Leaf Pine, one of the highest levels of governmental
recognition that can be conferred on a citizen of our state.
We are also proud of our volunteer service within the legal profession,
and of the significant involvement of our attorneys in various professional
activities. Members of our firm have served as adjunct professors
at the University of North Carolina, Duke and Wake Forest Schools
of Law, and our attorneys frequently participate as course planners
and speakers at continuing education programs on business, real estate,
and estate planning topics. Our attorneys have played leadership
roles in the North Carolina Bar Association, where members of our
firm have served on the Board of Governors and as section chairs,
committee chairs, and officers in the Business Law, Tax Law and Estate
Planning and Fiduciary Law Sections. Two of our attorneys have been
actively involved with the nationally recognized American College
of Trust and Estate Counsel and one has served as North Carolina
chair of that organization. We have also been active over the years
in the Greensboro Bar Association, having attorneys who have served
as president of the Greensboro Bar and as chair of the Young Lawyers
Section.
In addition to our professional activities, our attorneys participate
in numerous civic and charitable organizations, including serving on
various boards and volunteer committees. We encourage and support this
type of community and charitable involvement. |
